Escaping from the hustle and bustle of everyday life can be a challenge. This weekend take a break and dive headfirst into some nature filled activities that are fun for the family. Here are just a few of our favourite suggestions for you to try.

Our top six suggestions

Picnic Paradise

On a warm summer day there is nothing better than packing that basket full of your families favourite snacks and heading to the local park. Spread out a cosy blanket, bask in the sunshine, and indulge in a leisurely picnic. The fresh air and beautiful scenery will make your meal taste even more delicious. Looking to take up some extra time? Why not try baking some picnic treats with fresh fruit collected from your local orchard.

Hiking Hiatus

Taking a walk is a great way of letting work stress melt away and reconnecting with the world around you. Now we aren’t saying you need to walk to middle-earth, but even a slow-paced stroll around your nearest woodland can give your physical and mental health a real boost. But if burning those extra calories leaves you feeling hungry for a sweet treat, we won’t judge! Make things more interesting for your little ones by creating a nature themed scavenger hunt. Simply prepare a list of items to find such as pinecones, different types of leaves, or even animal tracks. Kids will love getting their hands muddy in search of their natural treasures.

Rock Painting

Brighten up your neighbourhood with hidden gems. Start by collecting some smooth rocks during your outdoor adventures and bring them home for an artistic twist. Once you have your pebble army simply break out the paint brushes and let your family's creativity run wild. Watch as some plain old stones transform into miniature works of art. This activity is a great one to keep the kids entertained on a rainy day, and afterwards they can spread the joy by hiding their works for others to discover!

Campfire Tales

If you have the opportunity, spend an evening around a campfire. This can be during your camping trip, as part of a visitor experience at your local nature park, or just in your back garden. Whichever way you choose to do it make sure to share stories, sing songs, and some gooey delicious smores. A campfire is a great evening activity that will help make memories you will cherish.

Bird Watching Bonanza

Don’t want to stray far from home? No problem. Try setting up a bird-watching station in your garden. Arm yourselves with binoculars, a bird guidebook, and a notepad to record all the feathered friends you spot. This activity is a peaceful way to spend your time and a wonderful way to introduce kids to local wildlife. Just make sure you have plenty of snacks on hand so you aren’t the one getting peckish!

Nature Crafts

Keep kids entertained and spark their creativity with some nature-based craft projects. Collect leaves, twigs, and other natural materials to create wreaths, pressed flower bookmarks, or even nature-inspired jewellery. These crafts can be quick, easy, and a nice way to spend those rainy days.

That sums up our top six favourite suggestions to cut down screen time this weekend and unwind. With these engaging activities you can create lasting memories and strengthen your family bonds. Remember, exploring the outdoors is not only incredibly fun but also offers a chance to reconnect, recharge, and look after our mental health. So go on, give it a try.
